SKET (2011)
Sket was filmed on location in London.
When a young woman is cruelly and indiscriminately attacked by a gang led by the violent Trey (Walters), her younger 16 year old sister Kayla wants revenge and will stop at nothing to get it, even if it means joining a rival girl gang led by the volatile Danielle.
Rowley Way Estate near West Hampstead, and the Whittington Estate on Dartmouth Park Hill wer used for filming(both estates are in the borough of Camden and look similar).

Teaser Poster
The film teaser poster is a key tool in the promotion of any film and is designed to try and display the many ideas and motifs presented by the film.
- LAYOUT the SKET poster is diagonally divided into two seperate sections, the dividing line is the film title and the contrasts are noticeable. Above the title sees the five female teenagers standing tall looking down to a low level camera shot making them look intimidating, in the background is a vry grey, dull setting with a block of flats noticeable relating to the council estate location of the film. Below the film title is much darker, almost black and an image of 'Ashley Walters (actor)' headshot is placed in the bottom right corner of the teaser poster highlighting his importance and superiority in the film, for example.
- TEXT the colour of the text varies from pink/fushia/purple (implying feminity as the leads are all females concentrating on a violent girl gang)however the strong, edgy capital letters styled similarly to graffiti suggests masculinity and the link to gang culture is evident. Supporting text found on the left side of the poster i.e. description of the film is also in this colour and font, although at a smaller scale size. Some text including a small descripitive note e.g. 'from the director of.....' and also the production quotes normally found at the bottom of a film poster are in white to come away from the film themes and just add to a very common code and convention of a teaser poster for British films.
- ACTORS/ACTRESSES dissimilarly to other film teaser posters, no actors/actresses names are stated and plastered across the poster. One reason is the highlight in the difference in high-low budget, as bigger stars usually are noted on the poster to draw this actor's fanbase for example. Also, without this common convention the alternative approach to SKET's poster is the independence of the film itself and its production/promotional work.
- COLOUR visually SKET is very dreary, plain emphaising the dark tones i.e. greys and blacks. This could be to set the tone and theme of the film e.g. 2 council estates in inner London and gag culture, but skillfully maintaining this gang related theme the text and font is styled similarly to graffiti yet coloured in pink. This flash of colour which is stereotypically aimed to girls/women suggests the teaser poster wanted to aim for both genders in their target audience.
- $1,000,000 (estimated)
I have inserted the official 2011 film trailer of 'SKET' below and now understanding the reasons for design/colour/layout etc on the many teaser posters makes watching the trailer easier and from an informed perspective.
HAVE A WATCH!
